Packaging Spotlight 021: Prosecutor Princess
Coffee Prince Shoulder Rest
I'd heard lots of good things about Prosecutor Princess as it aired, but whenever I thought about watching it, some other show would catch my attention first. When YA Entertainment released the U.S. DVD box set for the series, I figured it was finally time to give the show a shot.

I didn't really think I'd like the lead character, Ma Hye Ri, but Kim So Yeon somehow manages to make what I would normally consider to be an annoyingly naive lead into a charming one. Rather than wanting to shake sense into her (a feeling I often have with other overly "innocent" drama heroines and heroes), her naiveté makes one want to protect her and root her on. And it's not like she's a Pollyanna-type, either. In the beginning (and occasionally throughout the series), she can be quite self-centered, an understandable trait considering her background.

For the U.S. edition of Prosecutor Princess, YA offers fans its usual high quality packaging. The box set definitely gives off a similar feel to the original Korean release - it's crazy pink - but that's not really all there is to the series. While it's quite funny and light in parts, the romance, vengeance, betrayal and drama also interwoven into the storyline is what made me marathon the series over just a couple days. Highly recommended!

Like I said, it's a super pink box, but that's pretty fitting for the surface theme of the series. Also, not that it matters, but it should be noted that Park Shi Hoo is way hotter throughout the drama than the cover image might indicate.

Actually, the whole main cast is pretty easy on the eyes. More importantly, they make up a great ensemble that works really well together. I cared almost as much about the secondary lead couple as I did the primarly couple. Choi Song Hyun plays one of the most likable female "rivals" I've seen in a drama.

Here's the very pink spine and some serious heels.

The set consists of two Amaray cases with flipping disc trays rather than the digipak treatment.

The first Amaray case features plenty of nice photos and shoots of the leads for the other art fans out there.

The second case focuses a bit more on the secondary leads, which is A-OK with me. I love the insert shot on this one!

Back of the box:
Love, forgiveness, justice, and the perfect pair of high heels are just a heartbeat away in the delightful Korean TV drama Prosecutor Princess, another audience favorite from the creators of Brilliant Legacy and My Girl.

Hye-ri (Kim So-Yeon, The Grand Chef, All About Eve) is a prosecutor whose natural talent and intelligence play second fiddle to her flighty princess airs and fashion obsession. Soon she finds herself being politely shuffled to the corner by her colleagues, including her super serious mentor Se-joon (Han Jung-Soo, The King & I). Hye-ri wants to prove herself to her doubting colleagues, but her efforts often lead to trouble. Fortunately, In Woo (Park Shi-Hoo, What Planet Are You From?), a mysterious, dashing lawyer with a devilish smile and a hidden agenda, keeps showing up in random places and swooping in to rescue the princess in distress. However, In Woo's plans become muddled when he begins to fall for Hye-ri.
